Wikipedia as an Academic Resource

Generally, Wikipedia should not be cited as a source in academic work.

Wikipedia is an excellent starting point for research, however since anyone can edit any article at any time, all information found within Wikipedia should be verified by using a credible source - and the credible source should be cited rather than Wikipedia.

Sometimes credible sources can be found in the list of references at the end of most Wikipedia articles.

In addition to information, Wikipedia is also an excellent resource for images. Clicking on an image within Wikipedia will lead you to a page of information about the image which, as with all information, should be verified before it is used in academic work.
