This is a depiction of Saint Michael slaying Satan who is pictured as a dragon.
The Book of Revelation tells of a war in Heaven where Saint Michael and his angles battle against Satan and his angels. According to the Bible, Satan is not actually slain by Michael he is only cast out of Heaven along with all of his angels.
