Create your own Website
Age is an important factor in most search engine ranking algorithms so even if you don't have anything ready to upload, you should still buy the domain name and get hosting for it right away.
There are lots of places to purchase domain names, it's important to go with a reputable company, but you can transfer your name later if you end up not liking your first choice or if you find a better deal.
I like GoDaddy.com, they're usually having a sale and I've seen names go for as low as $1.99 per year. Even if there isn't a sale going on, it's still less than 1 dollar per month to have your own domain name.
When choosing your domain name keep in mind that a .com is best, .net is second best, .org is okay, and anything else is not recommended. Most artists use their name, JaneDoe.com, or if that's taken you might try JaneDoeArt.com, or something like that. If all of your choices are taken, you might consider changing your name to something more interesting or make up a word. If you choose to make up a word, just make it a short word that's easy to spell and remember. For example: Phrypan, FrightCookie, or MothQueen.
It's also not recommended to use numbers, or dashes. For example, JaneDoe2.com or Jane-Doe.com, are not good. Last of all, if you have an idea for a name, go get it today because it may not be there tomorrow.
Now get hosting for your fabulous new name. I always use FutureQuest.net because I am familiar with the company, I know my website will always be up and running, and I can count on excellent customer service. It is less than 9 dollars per month for basic hosting at FutureQuest.
Nine bucks a month isn't bad but you can go even cheaper if you just want to test the waters for a while. GoDaddy, and many other companies, offer hosting for less than 5 dollars a month. It's fine to try these companies out because they might be great, and if they aren't - just move. Free hosting is not recommended.
Now all you have to do is create your web pages and images and upload them. Your host should be able to give you detailed information about uploading. Basically, all you do is download a free FTP program, then put your web pages in the www file and your images in the images file.
You have several options when it comes to creating the actual web pages, you can learn html, you can use templates, you can use an editor, or you can use a combination of these.

And here are a few examples of web page editors that you can use: Netscape Composer, Microsoft FrontPage, or Macromedia Dreamweaver.
As an artist your images will be the most important part of your site, so you may want to invest in professional Digital Imaging Software. You could also try using your computer's paint program, search the web for free photo editing software, or search for online editing software.
