Text links vs. Banner links. Which is better? Use whatever best compliments the look of your site. Also remember that banners make your site slower especially if you have more than 2 or 3 banners on one page.

Quick Linking Tutorial
Creating new links is easy once you get the hang of it. If you've never done it before, this tutorial will walk you through it step by step.
Never link directly to images. This reduces the speed of your page, can result in broken images, and it's bandwidth theft. If you want to use an image on your website you have to upload it to your own server.
First save the image of the banner that you want.
To save an image in Netscape right click and choose Save this image as. To save an image in Explorer right click and choose Download this image to disk. (Other versions may have slightly different wording.)
Then simply copy the code below the banner that you want and paste it into the HTML CODE of the web page you wish to link from.
Then just upload the updated HTML page(s). You will also need to upload the image(s). Images should go into your images folder. Note: the code assumes that you have an images folder, if you do not upload the image to your images folder the image will not show up.
Detailed information about uploading should be provided by your host.
