A Tasty Suck and Sip
Poem
by Gratian Summerland
I sink away,
I shrink away,
from the day;
that's harsh and hot and bright.
My coffin is soft and velvety;
it's cool and dark and safe,
here is where I doze and dream;
and nap and nod and rest.
Twilight stirs me from my sleep,
and I pop out for a nip.
I flit about from girl to girl;
and at each one, I take my fill;
a lap, a gulp, a guzzle,
a tasty suck and sip.
I sink away,
I drink away,
until the day draws near.
Sunrise comes in a blaze of red,
and the sky, it turns to fire.
Time to run away,
hide away,
from the day;
that's brash and dry and bright.
