The End Product of Evolution
Article
by Cliff Roehr
At this moment I do not know whether I am starting an article or a
book. There are these thoughts that I want to share with you. The are all
pieces of a giant puzzle that I have had bouncing around my head for
years and as I lay in bed last night they seemed to all come together.
These thoughts were so compelling that I lay awake most of the night
fitting in one piece after the other. They just seemed to all fit
properly.
Evolution is a fact and it is pretty well accepted by all but the most
die hard religious zealots that it is a real process and that it exists.
I am not going to attempt to make the case for evolution here. There
are hundreds of books and articles available at your local library that
do just that, so if you want to hash over all that information then
please do so.
Henceforth in this writing I will simply assume that we are on the same
page and that both of us accept the concept of evolution as a fact. If
you happen to be a religious dogmatist that still believes in instant
creation then you might as well stop reading right now because the ideas
that I will be presenting will offer you nothing and I don't like to
argue.
THE EVOLUTIONARY PROCESS
The evolutionary process begins when a rock, with a smear of living
substance, arrives on a planet with a habitable environment. The planet
is habitable because of the temperature range and the presence of water
which also arrived from space. Could it happen in some other way?
Sure it could but that is as good a place to start as any. The planet has
the desired temperature range because it is in orbit around a sun that
provides warmth.
In a few billion years, more or less the smear develops into a single
cell living organism. Add some more time and the organism develops into
more complex creatures and the race is on. This process eventually
produces primitive sea animals which eventually find their way out of the
water and onto the land and into the air.
Sheer numbers sun's in the universe dictate that this process has
occurred at various places and times throughout eternity. How did the first
rock become smeared with a living substance? There are various
explanations for this phenomena but I don't understand them I just know that
there are such theories and scientific explanations.
As creatures start their trip up the evolutionary ladder change
continues to occur as they adapt to their changing environment as the host
planet itself continues to evolve. Those that adapt thrive and those that
don't evolve become extinct. We tend to think that what life we see
around us as the end product of this evolutionary process and it very
well may be for that particular living thing. New things, however
continue to appear and that process continues and will continue until
creatures appear that are the end product and there is nowhere further that
they can evolve.
What would be the nature of this end product of evolution? It would
have no physical body. It would be a complete state of energy and
intelligence. If that were not so then that species would not have completed
the evolutionary process. A race of individuals that had all achieved
that state of being would have no barrier that would preclude them
from uniting with all other creatures that had developed to that state.
Suns and planets do not enjoy infinite existence, they live for a very
long time but not forever. Eventually suns burn out, nova and die.
They take with them the planets that have been attracted to their
gravitational pull. Should the evolutionary cycle, on one of those planets,
have had time to complete then the planet would be destroyed but the
completely evolved beings that developed on that planet would not be
destroyed. Those beings would continue on for eternity as a complete state
of energy and a complete state of intelligence that required no
planetary environment for sustenance. We have a word in the English language
to describe such a being and ironically there is a word in all languages
spoken on earth that describes such a being. In English that word is
God. The final product of the evolutionary process is GOD.
MY HYPOTHESIS STATED AS FACT
I could go on from here and continually apologize for everything that I
say not being necessarily so but I choose to do that just once, right
here and right now. I am no psychic, I have no extraordinary insight, I
have not been spoken to by God or by any of his emissaries. I will
however state my conclusions as fact though I may be dead wrong. Any
version of God and eternity put forth by man may be right and they all may
be wrong, they certainly can't all be right. Most people were taught
what to believe and many become very irritated, repulsed and incensed
by any suggestion that what they were taught might not be exactly how it
is. You have the dogma of organized religion to thank for that state
of mind.
The tools that I have used to reach the conclusions that I have made
were greatly influenced by reading various works by many authors over the
last fifty years or so. I read everything that Ruth Montgomery wrote
and was particularly impressed by "The World Before" and "The World
Beyond". I read the Urantia book from cover to cover and reread most of it
several times. There are things that I do not believe in the Urantia
book but it is a great book to get one thinking. I have probably read a
hundred or so other books, including the scriptures of various
religions dealing with the subject of the God Man relationship and eternity.
GOD LOST HIS HOME PLANET
I believe that at some point somewhere in time and space God, the god
that we know by so many names, did complete the evolutionary cycle.
There was no further that this race could evolve, it had evolved to the
state of being that was all knowing, all energy and all of the
individuals of that planet had merged into one central being.
As time would have it the planet or perhaps the entire universe
eventually came to an end. Perhaps this was as a result of the expanding and
contracting universe contracting to the point of critical mass and
imploding, restarting the process creation anew. This is generally
referred to as the big bang theory. Not all science agrees with that theory.
At any rate the planet or planets that housed the race that had become
god ceased to exist leaving this godhead homeless but still in
existence as this godhead had become eternal. To a being of this composure
time as we know it had ceased to exist. It could no longer contemplate
how many times it's home planet had rotated or how many times it had
circled it's sun since it no longer had a planet.
The loss of environment came at a time when God was still just a little
short of eternal perfection but at a time when God was perfectly
capable of eternal survival. The majority of the individuals that comprised
the Godhead were absolutely perfect but then there were those that
still fell a little short Since the perfect members of this Godhead
coalition were in the clear majority and since they desired that their
entire being should be perfect they proceeded to identify those members that
were lacking in perfection in some individual way. The perfect members
then mandated that their imperfect companions be removed from the
godhead itself and set aside to occupy one or more suitable planets that
the perfect god had located. The godhead had sought out planets that
were similar to his home planet. These wayward souls were to remain on or
about these planets or this planet until such time as they had overcome
their shortcomings and were prepared to reenter the body of God that
was perfect. They themselves could only reenter when they themselves had
achieved perfection.
Some of these spirits were near perfect and if not near perfect were a
lot closer to that state than were others. One such planet that was
chosen for this purpose was our own earth. At first these wayward ones
wandered the earth and were fascinated by it but failed to grasp just
what their individual shortcomings were and how they could overcome them.
From sheer boredom and curiosity these eternal spirits began to enter
the bodies of the various land sea and air creatures that had developed
on this planet. They did this for diversion from boredom, to
experience briefly what the animal experienced and to gain insight as to the
nature of mortal life. They remained not long with these animal hosts
then at their leisure they departed the bodies of these creatures and
commenced once again to wander. Eventually as one of these spirits would
remain with the host for too long a period of time they would become
trapped and find themselves unable to depart that physical animal until
that animal ceased to provide a living host and had succumbed. At the
point of the animal host's demise the spirit was once again freed to
continue its wanderings. This period continued on earth for a very long
time in earth years, perhaps a million or even several million years.
Throughout all of this time none of the wayward ones had made any
significant progress toward their desired goal of becoming perfect and none
had been allowed to reenter the godhead and become a functioning part
thereof.
GOD TAKES ACTION
The central body of God had observed the animalization of these wayward
spirits and decided that it was a pointless process but that with a few
changes the process of entering the bodies of the animals and remaining
with that body throughout it's entire lifetime could be just the
vehicle that would lead to the improvement of these spirits and their
eventual redemption.
The godhead observed all of the creatures on the earth and finally
selected a primate that most resembled the ancestral beginnings of his own
race that inhabited the home planet of the spirits so long ago. (God
created man in his own image) The godhead then mandated that the wayward
ones could henceforth enter that animal and only that animal when they
wanted an earth plane experience. They could enter that animal at the
moment of it's delivery from the mothers womb at about the time it took
it's first breath and sent forth it's first cry. Further the wayward
spirit must remain with that host throughout it's life and depart only
upon the demise of the animal. The animal possesses a physical brain
and the spirit is an immortal mentality . The spirit arrives with no
memory of any previous life, mortal or immortal. Then the blank spirit
brain and the blank physical brain begin the journey together. At this
moment of birth it is as though the spirit is born again. It has a
clean slate.
All the spirit brings with it is the sense of "I AM". The sense of
"I AM" is that individual spark of personal identity that marks the
existence of that individual to himself. He sees through the animals
eyes, hears from the animals ears and makes decisions from his animal brain
working in partnership with his immortal brain. The spirit also brings
with him from the other side, his character, his sense of right and
wrong. A little of the spirits previous existence sneaks in, these are
the phobia's that the individual carries through life. This might
manifest itself as a like or dislike of a particular food or a fear of
heights (acrophobia) or fear of being closed in (claustrophobia) or any of a
dozen other phobias. Mortal existence for the spirit is an adventure
and a chance to do better this time out than he did last time out, to
improve in his quest for perfection.
This system has been in place for perhaps two million years or more.
Over these years the animal chosen as host to the spirits has evolved to
a higher state and climbed the evolutionary ladder steadily. Perhaps
just the presence of an eternal spirit has contributed to that
development. As you have probably guessed by now, we are that animal.
To date it is unknown if any of the wayward spirits has improved enough
to rejoin the godhead but personally I kind of doubt it. At least once
and perhaps several times the godhead has dispatched one of its perfect
spirits to occupy the body of one of the animals to demonstrate to the
others that it was indeed possible lead a perfect life. The last time
that this occurred that spirit was one of the highest spirits that
dwelled as a member of the godhead. He was known on the earth as Jesus
Christ.
Christ was the member that had taken it on himself to look after the
wayward ones and he was the one that would serve as the entry point when
one of the wayward ones had attained perfection and was ready to
reenter the godhead as a perfected being. (Christ therefore is the light and
the way and no man shall return to the father but by him.)
THE NATURE OF MAN
What then is the precise nature of man? Look into a mirror, what do
you see? You see a sentient being but nevertheless an animal that is
indigenous to this planet. It is born of an animal mother develops lives
and dies in a finite number of years much as it would have, or could
have, had the godhead never entered the picture in the first place.
Inside that animal is one or a part of one of the wayward spirits. When
the animal succumbs the spirit departs carrying with it a vivid memory
of every detail of that animals life. It remembers for eternity every
deed, every word spoken or heard by that animal and every thought that
animal ever had. Beyond that and most importantly the spirit takes with
it the personal identity that we all posses, the awareness of "I AM".
When the spirit crosses over to the other plane the individual me still
exists and that spirit has been and will continue to be that individual
me for eternity. No one has ever died and no one will. We are all
eternal though the bodies that temporarily house us while we are on earth
plane come and go.
Some spirits that have accompanied animals of good intention in this
life and who have enjoyed a particularly long life never loose
consciousness but are wide awake when they cross over. It can take them a bit of
time to realize what has happened and to realize that they have crossed
from this plane to the other.
According to Ruth Montgomery and her guides the first order of business
for a spirit when it crosses through the tunnel to the light, is to
review it's most recent mortal life and pass judgment on itself. No
other spirit will evaluate that mortal life. Each feels remorse at the
deeds of their animal life that fell short of perfection and is comforted
by reviewing the positive achievements of their animal existence.
Troubled spirits that have done terrible things while in the mortal
cloak may sleep for a very long time before renewing their quest for
perfection. Spirits that conclude a mortal experience are free to return
immediately or may choose to never put themselves through that mortal
experience again. By study and prayer they can improve while they are on
the other side but the progress is slow. This is where it is happening
here in the mortal flesh. By living an exceptional life in the mortal
flesh they can make great and rapid progress toward their desired
perfection. They also run the risk of losing ground. You won't know how
well you did until you return home to the other side.
Several years ago I remember hearing on a talk radio show that an
experiment had been conducted in a major hospital where a bed had been
mounted on a super accurate scales. Patients were moved to that bed when
the end was near and when there was nothing more that the medical staff
could do for the individual. Every minute change in weight that
occurred on that bed was recorded. The patient was closely monitored and at
the moment of death a sudden though minuscule weight loss occurred.
After many patients had been observed it was concluded that the only way
to explain this consistent and absolutely identical weight loss at the
instant of death was that was the weight of the wayward spirit departing
the body. I forget now exactly much that was but it was a few grams.
So even the spirits consist of some physical matter. I do believe that
this more than anything else proves that the spirit that dwells in man
is eternal.
HOW TO LIVE A PERFECT LIFE
The rules for leading a perfect mortal life are simple. All you need
do is to be able to put the interests of all other people, including the
most despicable person on earth ahead of your own, to actually love
that person more than you love yourself. This has to be done in your
heart not with lip service. You actually have to feel that way inside,
meaning your spirit has to feel that way. Once a spirit achieves that
goal throughout the entire mortal experience then he will have achieved
perfection. So far nobody has even come close.
In that regard here are a few suggestions:
It is OK to try to win if you do it fair and square this will leave you
with no remorse even though the person you beat out may feel bad that
he did not win.
It is OK to earn enough money to live comfortably and provide for your
family, even though it would make someone happy if you gave them
everything you had.
If you even think of cheating someone else or stealing from them you
will recall that thought on the other side and repent for it whether you
actually cheat or steal or not.
You feel worse when you review your life for big things that you have
done wrong than for little things, so you would feel worse about
cheating than considering it. You will however recall both events in vivid
detail.
It is OK to serve in the armed forces of your country and even to take
the life of another if your nations cause is just. If you commit
yourself to serve a tyrant and some other option is open to you then you
will create regrets.
It is sometimes OK to kill another in self defense but only if there is
no other option.
It is OK to work as a Police Officer or to otherwise enforce the law of
the land, even though you will make others feel bad. There is a great
temptation for Police Officers to make others feel bad when there is no
need for them to do that. In that event it will cause you regret.
To bully, insult, curse or just be rude to another will be recalled and
regretted by you on the other side.
If you enjoy an abundance of anything that exceeds your own needs then
you will eventually feel bad that you didn't share the surplus with
others.
In short, live by the golden rule and take the ten commandments in
qualified perspective.
Remember always that one day in the far far distant future we, the
flawed spirits will return to take our place with the godhead and we will
all be as one and we will all be perfect. So when you harm or insult
another person or do anything that makes them feel bad, you are
essentially doing that harm to God and to yourself. That is a simple concept
but it is very hard for mortals to grasp. You WILL live to regret not
trying to do the best you can.
