Swim for Your Supper
Poem
by Cori Nicole Smith

Upon feeding my fish
And drinking my wine
A thought occurred
For the hundredth time
What would happen
How would it be
If, instead,
My fish fed me?
The feast I would have
With my fish as the host
The wonderful things
My menu would boast
With crab for my breakfast
And lobster for lunch
Scallops for dinner
And shrimp oyster punch
My fish knows all
The best places to hide
So we go to their shelter
Mouth's open wide
Scattering bewildered
Fleeing crustaceans
In mad exodus from
Aquatic habitations
Leaving the safety
Of H2O
For the bile and smile
Of my stomach below.
