Dear Granny

Dear Granny,
Thank you.
Thank you for touching our lives in a way words can't even begin to
describe. Thank you for bringing us my mother and giving her your strength to
endure life's toughest challenges.
Thank you Granny, for taking care of us with a great balance of love
and discipline. Especially me when I did not want to go to camp. You
opened your Felton Street home and let me spend the best summers of my life
with you. And I know me and Pop-Pop would get on your nerves sometimes
with our loud backgammon games, or yelling during the drawing, when
Pop-Pop's lottery ticket was always just ONE NUMBER OFF!
Thank you for cooking me and Pop-Pop breakfast each morning even after
your long night shift. You had to be tired, but always made time to
play a game with us.
Thank you Granny for always saying to me, they can take your job or
money, but they can't take away your education. When I came over to your
house, you pointed to the wall that displayed all the graduation
pictures of your grandchildren. Thank you for reminding me EVERYTIME that my
picture was missing! Your encouragement got me through, and now, I am a
graduate on your wall.
Thank you for all the extra kindness and love when I had my son. I was
young, and instead of the more predicable "how could you" speech, you
expressed encouragement and pride. I have cherished that, along with all
the other special notes you wrote me throughout my young adulthood.
Thank you Granny. Thank you for making all of us feel equally loved,
special and important. Although I think you would finish your Christmas
shopping by July each year, you never forgot anyone and always had that
special gift. And don't worry Granny, we are all teaching our kids not
to rip the wrapping paper off, so it can be reused!
Thank you Granny. You are the heart and soul of this family, our
inspiration. And while we should feel blessed that you spent so much time
with us, so many special years, so many great moments, it will never,
never seem like enough.
Thank you, Granny. I will miss you.
Love, Your Grandson.
