What More Can I Give
Poem
Elaine Kokas

This I dedicate to a new friend Carlos, best wishes.

In the eyes of a stranger I am someone but in the eyes of a friend I am no one.

I stand before you with no armor, no wicked weapons, yet I am at war.

With honesty surrounding me, from my skin it can not help but to bleed, you question me.

With a smile and no expectations I fed you, yet you are hungry. What more can I give?

With understanding sentiment I lower my head to your doubt and strip away my clothes to stand before you with nothing but my flesh. I reveal the scars from my battles and proclaim my devotion. What more can I give?

Many words I have written yet no one has read them, many words I have said yet no one has heard them, I have stood before you bare and vulnerable yet you have not seen me. Tell me friend what more can I give you if not my soul?
