Death
Poem
by Stacy Ingram

The end is near, do not be afraid
as the dark shadow falls upon the land,
as the claps of thunder are heard in the distance,
as the screams grow louder
as your brain starts to swell
as your heart slows down
until all is still,
you finally enter the realms of death.

He creeps slowly towards you
as you lay there stripped of life
emptied of all that is living.

The fires of hell burn high around you
but you do not feel the heat
as you try to speak, you swallow
the sour flavour of the underworld
you hear the screams of terror and pain
from the corpses that crawl around you
you taste the blood so sweet
that falls down from the flames.

He comes closer
you feel the iciness of his breath
you see the fire in the holes
where his eyes should be
he smiles at you genlty
and as he says the words;
you see your soul fly out, into
the bottomless pit of mangled spirits.
